The Iceland Adventure 2001

Day 4: Sunday October 6, 2001

Weather: Sunny, Temperature 14c

This was an open day of opportunity. Several small groups went shopping and a visit back to Keiko’s inlet and others climbed up the Eldfell and Helgafell volcanoes. The group also visited the local museum that displayed much of the natural history of the Westman Islands.

The group departed the island for the mainland, by ferry, in the early afternoon. Video Clip: Please allow 3 minutes to load. But a short stop at a local bakery before going to the ferry was a must.

We arrived at Thorlakshofn to catch a bus ride to our hotel in Reykjavik. Most of the group was “scouting” the hotel. The two main hot spots at the hotel were the Health Spa, Planet Pulse, and the gift shop. On a more adventurous note, a majority of the group members ventured to the public geothermal swimming pool which was a short 10-minute walk from the hotel. The group went through a “mini customs” inspection before entering the pool, as cleanliness is watched carefully. The girls had issues and were monitored closely by the female staff that worked at the pool. Some of the girls experienced…culture shock and some never recovered…ha! ha!
