The Iceland Adventure 2001

Day 6: Tuesday October 8, 2001

Weather: Cloudy, Temperature 6c

The group meet at 9:30 am in the main lobby to catch our bus for the 6-hour tour of the Blue Lagoon and Hafnarfjourdur.

Our first stop was the Blue Lagoon. We enjoyed the geothermal waters which were located in the middle of an ancient lava field. To see a video clip of the Blue Lagoon, go to the Geothermal Energy page.

The groups next stop was at Grindavik, a small fishing village where we stop for lunch.

After lunch we went to the Reykjanes Lighthouse. This windy location is the farthest point west on the mainland of Iceland. Large waves and kilometers of endless lava fields dominated this landscape.

The groups final stop of the day was in the tiny community of Njardvik. The group made a short stop to visit a small aquarium that had local species of aquatic life. From this location, we made our way back to the hotel for a restful evening. Most of the evening was spent adding up the cost of items bought during the trip for customs.

Day 7: Wednesday October 10, 2001

The group gathered their belongings and we were bused to the Keflavik Airport for our flight back to Halifax.
